All public housing waitlists, including those for families and for elderly/disabled individuals, are currently closed. Historically, to apply for public housing, pre-applications were picked up in-person at 13615 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI, and then could be mailed or hand-delivered. Income limits apply for federally subsidized buildings, with rent based on 30% of adjusted gross income, and income generally not exceeding $56,600 for one person or $64,650 for two people. Eligibility is based on annual gross income, age or disability status, and US citizenship or eligible immigration status. The waitlists for specific senior properties (Townsend Towers, Kennedy Plaza, and Sisson Manor) were closed upon reaching 99 applicants, and the mobility-impaired waitlist is closed until further notice.

The Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waitlist for the Dearborn Housing Commission is currently closed and not accepting applications. Historically, openings are announced with as little as 48 hours notice via their website and local media. Eligibility typically requires income not exceeding 50% of the area median income, with the very low-income limit for a family of four for FY2025 being $50,500 per year. The program is limited to US Citizens and specific categories of non-citizens, and criminal histories are reviewed. Historically, waitlist placement has involved a lottery system.
