This week we're tracking 8 Section 8 waitlist openings across 8 states, including opportunities in Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, New York, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. These openings span HCV vouchers, project-based vouchers, and public housing programs. As always, many of these waitlists do not require you to live in the area to apply.

Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority – Buffalo, New York Section 8 HCV Waiting List Opens This Week
The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority is opening their Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waiting list on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The waitlist is not expected to reopen until at least 2026; future openings will be advertised through local media, the BMHA website, and social media accounts.
Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority – Norfolk, Virginia PBV Waiting List Opens This Week

Housing Authority of the City of Brighton – Brighton, Colorado PBV Waiting List Opens This Week
The Housing Authority of the City of Brighton is opening their Project Based Voucher (PBV) waiting list on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Applications will be available online only starting July 30, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at www.brightonhousingauthority.org, with reasonable accommodation for disabilities by phone (303-655-2160). The waitlist will close without further notice once enough applications have been received. Applications will be placed on the waitlist according to BHA admissions preferences and HUD requirements.
Housing Authority of Johnson County – Vienna, Illinois Section 8 HCV Waiting List Opens This Week
The Housing Authority of Johnson County is opening their Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waiting list on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The online waitlist will open at 9 AM and accept the first 600 applications; applicants must create an account on Waitlist Check to apply.

The Johnson County Housing Authority is opening their Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waiting list on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The online waitlist will open on July 31, 2026, at 9 AM. Applicants must create an account on Waitlist Check to apply. The first 600 applications will be accepted.
